Echoes of the Orient
N°2
Introduction
This artwork presents a dense and refined vertical composition, where fragments of Oriental motifs appear to overlap like textiles, decorative panels, or layers of pictorial memory. The overall impression is one of warmth and richness, conveyed through a thick painterly surface, deep colors, and an intentionally fragmented structure that invites the viewer’s gaze to move between abstraction, ornamentation, and architectural reminiscence.
Visual and Symbolic Interpretation
The composition is structured around several tilted rectangular surfaces, dominated by deep greens, golden ochres, chalky beiges, and almost black accents. Floral and geometric motifs emerge across these colored planes, recalling the patterns of carpets or ornamental coverings. The perspective remains intentionally unstable: the forms overlap, intersect, and interlock, creating the impression of suspended fragments floating within a luminous space.
The materiality of the work is particularly striking, with a granular, cracked, and richly impastoed texture that gives the surface a deeply tactile quality. The lighter areas, ranging from ivory to sand tones, appear to reveal or partially conceal the underlying motifs, as though the image preserved the traces of an ancient decorative surface. Symbolically, these layers may evoke the memory of places, the transmission of ornamental forms, and the persistence of beauty despite the erosion of time. The overall atmosphere is at once precious, silent, and contemplative.
